[Solved] I Forgot How to Get Net Broadcaster Working Across Two Macs

Hello All,

About a year ago: I linked two Macs together and used Net Broadcasters to send information back and forth.

Present day: I cannot for the life of me remember the specifics how I set it up, network-wise, so that two Macs can talk to each other in order to send information over Net Broadcaster actors from a patch on one computer to a patch on another computer. I thought I used an ethernet cable, but in my reading, I am finding that such a setup likely would not have worked due to lack of support for multiplexing. Both then, and now, I was/am on a large university network, if that information helps.

I have been searching the forum and the omnipotent Google for a few hours, and though I have found some tidbits, nothing I have found has worked for me so far. Please, can somebody save me from my own forgetfulness?

Have you made sure that each Isadora on each machine has a different ID? The default is 1 in preferences.

I have not used this feature in a while so I need to check it but its often something simple like that.

We will figure it out i'm sure!

I did make sure each machine had a different ID, and tried sending from both but didn't see any response on either computer.

I could imagine that the problem is the network of the university. Here at the Zurich University of the Arts I can not use OSC or any other specific network communication over their network. I guess they block alot for security reasons. I always use an extra router and create my own network.

Thanks for the tip, I have obtained a router to try and make my own network. Any tips on how to do so? I do not have a lot of experience setting up networks. I've connected the two computers to LAN ports in the back of the router, but now neither computer's Listener actors in Isadora respondto Net Broadcasters, even the ones on the same computer in the same scene.

Do your macs get an ip address from the router? You find the info in the apple menu --> preferences --> network.

I wasn't able to figure out why I couldn't get this working over LAN, but I got it working over wireless with the separate router.

that is strange, probably you have to login to your router to see the settings, depending on the mode sometimes not all LAN connections are free to use.
