@mark Thank you for a brilliant session! I didn’t have time to join it then. But after seeing it through yesterday, one question emerged into my mind.

Back in the times of Isadora v1.x, I remember reading that using excessively User Actors / Macros with heavy load video processing within them would have slowed down the processing (compared to that that they would be all in the base level – no macros or user actors).

Hopefully I remember totally wrong, but I would like to ask if – with Isadora v3.x – it makes any difference to compose complicated heavy duty patches using “heavy” actors inside “multi-layered” User Actors or Macros?

      Thanks in advance!

      roughness, reflection or transparency

There is no bump map in Isadora, there is no reflections either. You can texture with alpha channel transparency.

Here is a demo patch I created that forces an alpha transparency onto a movie file. The movie files works for MacOS 10.15.

      Kind Regards

      Hi @nandada

The data array is going to be very helpful for what you want to do. I would suggest you determine where your data is coming from and what form it is in. One thing about ocean tides is that there are a number of variables, for example location, time and height. So you would need to consider how to represent the data in a way that is appealing for you and your audience (you may already have that worked out). What are all the variables you want to use? There are parameters you could add such as water temperature, wave height ... so the diversity of data can be interesting to increase/decrease to recreate sonically or visually.

You can access data on the internet through data providers such as those listed as free API sources in this GitHub: https://github.com/public-apis/public-api

Storm Glass has a free plan for up to 50 data requests per day, after that it gets expensive: https://stormglass.io/

It is then about your patch configuration to make sense of how to work with the data collection over time - and this is where the Data Array can be implemented.

If you are interested I have made a demonstration patch that has used free open data from online sources. You are welcome to download it here: https://community. https://github.com/public-apis/public-apis.com/topic/6591/sharing-a-demo-patch-getting-and-parsing-data-from-api-url-s

It requires the JSON Parser plugin provided by @mark here: https://community.troikatronix.com/topic/6503/json-parser-actor-for-macos-and-windows-public-beta

      Kind Regards

      [EDIT]

      Dear Community,

Please find this new "guru session" directory with viewing and download links for all of the guru sessions. We will be updating this list as we add guru sessions in the future.

Guru Sessions Directory Knowledge Base article.

[EDIT] We've created a special thread where you can find all the "guru sessions" viewing links and downloads

      Dear Community,

First, please don't post in this thread. This thread will be used to announce the URL for each of the two-hour online teaching sessions. I will post the URL for each session 10 minutes before the session

The first session will be Wednesday March 18th at 6pm CET (Central European Time) (West Coast USA = 10am PDT / East Coast USA = 1pm EDT / UK = 5pm GMT)

The second session will be Friday March 20th at at the same time listed above.

I am still ramping up on how this all works. Hopefully today will be a success, but I'm sure there will be some glitches. Thanks to all who will give it a try!

      See you Soon,
      Mark
