      Hi,

PTZ cameras are one device option to look at. I am thinking perhaps the proliferation of gimbals is another - somewhat related device - that can be considered for Izzy plugin development. I have a DJI Ronin M and a Ronin S gimbal and just a quick comparison of cost suggest these possibly  provide good value and flexibility compared to the PTZ camera lineup - admittedly they are a BYO camera option. The PTZ cameras appears to have some shared protocol, but the diversity of gimbal makes and models are likely all proprietary. Still I would definitely use an Isadora Plugin that implemented gimbal control as an alternative to acquiring a PTZ camera. Specifically because the gimbal allows any number of camera types to be mounted and offer comparable functionality to PTZ.

      Just a thought.

      Best wishes

      Russell

I have been attempting to use VISCA commands via the new protocol **Sony** has established via their new **SRG-series PTZ cameras**. I have not been successful.

I have been able to use hex commands via the VISCA port but would very much like to control PTZ via ethernet as it can also do POE (power and control) via a multi-camera setup with one ethernet cable.

You should check ip first, please try with computer + camera with static ips

Then have a look in the user actors I posted, you should find some commands. Send me a private message if you want we can skype. I don't have the camera with me, so no way to test myself.

What USB3 controller do you have? I know there are quite a few chips that do not really support the full bandwidth. Are you using a laptop? Do you have access to a desktop machine with a separate usb3 PCIE card. For high bandwidth applications these seem to be the only useable devices. There is a pretty good list of USB3 laptops that have full bandwidth controllers here http://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4277&p=148443&hilit=usb+3#p148443

It is for blackmagic compatibility, but the requirement is pretty simple, just full bandwidth and high performance. So far for me USB3 has been a little unreliable, (well not really but there are a lot of crappy controllers out there, including ones integrated into many motherboards. At any rate USB 3 has some pretty debilitating limitations on cable length (in my mind this kills the idea of a PTZ as you can only be a few meters away from the port for high bandwidth uses like HD video, as you could probably just reach and move the camera anyway). Take a look at something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/10x-Zoom-High-Speed-1080P-HD-SDI-PTZ-Dome-Camera-IR-60m-1-2-7-CMOS-Auto-Focus-/261447245257?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item3cdf785dc9 It has a similar specs (possible the same sensor by the looks of it) and is HDSDI so easy cheap and long connections between camera and computer and SDi capture boxes are cheap.

@Gapworks Yes, at first it seems odd, but frankly, it seems that most PTZ cameras are horribly designed, with proprietory quirks, and are also disproportionately expensive compared to other solutions. So they havent been very popular with interactive designers. I had one myself for a project and it was useless. We went back to a standard camera.

thanks. Who knows. It is a 8 pin mini din cable but is it crossed?

this is an explaining pdf 8 pin to RS 232... After lots of research I found this RS232 to 8 pin mini din cable for vc cameras. http://www.streakwave.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=RS%2D232C&eq=&Tp= But the camera output of rs 232 is 8 pin too. SO I probably need just 8 pin to 8 pin cables.... and there are different configurations of the pins.... The good one is this http://www.streakwave.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=PA%2DV16&eq=&Tp= SO I probably need a 8 pin to 8 pin cable similar to this plug  I cross fingers...

Well, first take a look at this page:

http://www.commfront.com/RS232_Examples/CCTV/Pelco_D_Pelco_P_Examples_Tutorial.HTM#1 There are some example command strings under "Pelco-D command string examples" You can just double click the Send Serial actor, and paste one of these examples into the dialog box. Then trigger the actor to see if the PTZ responds. If it does, then you'll have to do some work to figure out the messages you want to send. The biggest difficulty is that this protocol requires a checksum -- and, unfortunately, Isadora cannot calculate this for you directly. So it's going to take a bit of work to implement this protocol if you need to go beyond simple messages that are fixed, like the ones in the example above. Best Wishes, Mark

      I

      Dear Simon,

To follow-up on Mark's post -- I was able to do some capture tests of 3 streams a few months ago with the same deck link quad card and had somewhat mixed results. With 3 streams I would see a significant number of dropped or duplicated frames, and/or bad artifacts.

I don't have the quad handy currently but I'd be happy to pass my test notes on to Mark in case recent changes in izzy may have helped out with the dropped frame issue.

      Best,

      Ian
