Black text blended over a background

Hi All,
I imagine I'm missing something really simple here: I've got a background scene that I want to leave while I go through a couple other scenes (It's titling and visuals for a concert). One has some black text that I'm creating using a text draw actor. I'm finding that either the black text will disappear or create a black box in the scene. I'm sure that I'm just messing up my blend modes and layers, but I feel like I've tried every mix. Thanks!

The 'background color' input of both Video Mixer actors is set to black instead of transparent. Turn the alpha of those down to zero, and it works.
