This video pretty much explains it all:

I have a .dae model downloaded from Sketchfab, with its associated texure files. I import this into Meshlab and assign the texture using these files. I then export it as a .3ds from Meshlab into Isadora, but no texture. I realise in this video I didn't turn on the lighting for the 3D model, I tried this afterwards and still no texture.

As you can see, the 3ds and texture files are in the same folder.

      Any ideas? Thank you!

        hi,

I have had issues with assigning image texture files in Isadora too. I was able to workaround the issue by using very short file names for the image file. It appeared that Isadora would not correctly ingest texture image file names. Short, 4-6 letter file names worked each time.

        Best wishes

          Hi Russell,

Can confirm that I have just tried shortenening the file name to just tex.png, text.png etc. and still no luck 😞

Is the method in which I am assigning the texture in Meshlab correct? It's almost like its not being baked/assigned properly?

          Many thanks

          James

Hi, I have to say I have not used Meshlab to assign a texture file. I would suggest using a different application - like Blender (NOTE: Blender 2.79 exports to 3ds format, but later versions of Blender do not).

I don't do this much myself, but I will share what I know.

Isadora requires a DOS friendly name for the file.. so the convention is 8.3 where the 8 characters are the name, and the 3 are the file extension.
It is also required that the path to the image be local to the file itself, so place the texture file (eg:jpg) beside the 3d file.

Here is a demonstration of working with Blender 2.79 to assign an image texture to a 3DS geometry file...
