this is an explaining pdf 8 pin to RS 232... After lots of research I found this RS232 to 8 pin mini din cable for vc cameras. http://www.streakwave.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=RS%2D232C&eq=&Tp= But the camera output of rs 232 is 8 pin too. SO I probably need just 8 pin to 8 pin cables.... and there are different configurations of the pins.... The Lanbox actors "Lanbox Channels" and "Lanbox RGB out" use UDP, but I find it much more convenient to communicate with my actors. Maybe you have time to try them out? They can be downloaded from the LanBox download section:

You'll find a woking example there with 24 channel faders and 1 scene fader. You'll also find an actor which stores the actual DMX output as a cuestep - this actor is really complicated programming!

Why do you think you are missing values - is the message being sent regularly every 1 sec - do you see values update once a second ?

Binary serial watcher might be misleading you as it displays different info - it will trigger after every 4 bytes - any 4 data bytes that come down the serial port - each digit is a byte, and so are the commas, carriage return etc... so you will get multiple triggers firing on the binary actor for each single trigger firing on the character watcher that reads 11 values - when you are only sending a couple of values they will both trigger around the same rate - but as the message gets longer the binary actor will trigger more times for each received message

I am familiar with blender but I already know C4D and Cheetah3D is similar to that in terms of UI whereas blender is completely different. If I had to do it again I might have learned Blender to begin with but I didn't and I don't want to try and completely relearn now.

I use a lot of wireless joysticks, usually older logitech ones that are great and automatically pick up if they drop out. I have had to find a replacement and am using xbox 360 controllers. On a mac I get solid performance and if the connection drops you can press the connect button and be back in business. 

I have had to switch and use this on a pc laptop. If the connection drops I have to restart Isadora to connect again, even though I get a connected status on the driver. Also when I move the patch from mac to pc, the same HID controller gives different names, I have to do the stream setup again every time- the combination of these two behaviours  is driving me nuts. Does anyone own Isadora for windows and an xbox 360 controller- if you could save a blank patch with the buttons captured and numbered in stream setup.... Mark could you generate generic names for the HID devices so that mac to windows transfer works? I have the same behavioural problem when I use the OIS library for connecting to gamepad controllers with openframeworks (the disconnecting anyway), I find it strange that I get the problem on PC but not mac, does Isadora use different libraries to access the hid devices on mac vs pc?
