@lauri So far there is no chance for thuinderbolt, you will havew to go with USB3.0 or PCIe capture.

The trashcans have a serious thermal design flaw and all GPUs are underclocked to compensate, if yours has a problem with a lot of pushing apple will replace the cards (gltiches on intense renders etc)

@gomer_pyle yes you can but you need to use the outside 2 connectors! then only 2 monitors show up!

@kurtmeadows in general I would avoid using this method, unless you really need a feature from that pathway (like dual link 444 SDI). Also yes this is limited to a single output. The Blackmagic cards have no processing capability, it will waste a lot of resources to go back and forth from the GPU (where your image is calculated), back to the CPU and out the Blackmagic output.

It seems your need is only monitoring what you output to the projectors, this can be done inside Isadora, or by splitting the output signals, or using a multiview monitor. I would go for adding an extra monitor to you gfx card and asking yourself a split screen preview of everything you need to see. Just use normal HDMI to SDI for your output (even Blackmagic sell these do 50 bucks these days). This way is less cabling and less work for your computer as well as only requiring a single screen for preview monitoring.

Thanks much for the feedback. Since I've only worked on Macs at this point I haven't given any thought to Kinect v2 but will definitely look into Ryan Webber's solution and test it and the v2 out.  The only other thing I've been rolling over has to do with sound and whether I need a separate sound card. I have a colleague who is into large audio installations who works with a Universal Audio Apollo 8 and a less expensive unit from them. His thoughts are that if we're moving into high-end audio that the station should be a separate one and that I can probably get by with a USB based mic interface. Your thoughts?

I can verify that there is inconsistent and unexpected behavior using my Logitech c930e webcam similar to what has been posted previously by @Woland and others “ n the Live Capture Settings, when we went to select the Logitech C920, we sometimes wouldn't get a feed and it would show up as "disabled". I can’t recreate this behavior each time, but the last occurrence happened during a setup for a gallery installation that also used usb for communicating with other devices such as an Arduino. And where a usb hub was also connected to the computer (but not the same port as the camera), this was using an older usb2 Mac book pro 2012.

I have not seen the issue on a later usb3 MacBook Pro, except for having to relaunch the application before it will find the camera connection.

I was pointing the Datapath solution as I find it being the most "comfortable one ", even if it's of course more expensive.

I have been talking with @maiami about this project before she posted the question here. They will need to run long SDI cables to the beamers etc...

I find the Datapath solution nice because you get direct SDI outputs, that you can mirror easily to control screens, no adapters, no extra converters etc... Also as the solution needs to be " touring ready ", the datapath is ready to be rack mounted.

There are so many cheap varieties of usb mic’s, including the headset variety. In my experience I have had unreliable performance from these because the build quality is low and many have simply fallen apart. 

I have used an Avid Mbox mini as a usb audio interface and have found it to be a robust piece of equipment with good quality IO for one or two microphones. Because it has standard xlr cable ports with phantom power, many microphones are compatible, including wireless lavaliere sets.

The Mbox is a portable form factor however, it would be interesting to look into other quality audio interfaces available in a small box with a reasonable price tag.

@woland Hi, yes I have used pico on latest design, in the pic attached the distance is about 12M. 

Because of the nature of the show the lighting design was so low my normal projector was too bright, and there was not a lot of opportunity to blackout/cover the light without seeing the shadow cutting across, hence breaking the illusion, the pico fixed this. 

Depending on the make, the problem with the sd card on short loop is text info will appear for a few seconds on every loop, so a long movie file is required

Even though its not AV foundation it performs best on my system (MacBookPro, mid. 2015). Between in Izzy 2.6 Hap will play with AV foundation.

I think you will find most projectors have internal scaling functionality. It is likely to be automatic with only simple options for letterboxing, pan & scan and/or over scanning.

Sorry for the thread necromancy everyone. I saw a post that this one was relevant to, searched this up to link it and show the images I had taken of the stacked projectors, only to discover that I never added them to this forum post. Since I made the edit and added the photos, I figured I may as well comment in order to bump the post so people can see the setup that I originally meant to show in picture form, but apparently forgot to add due to being too busy.

Finally added pictures to this post. Sometimes this solution is cheaper than renting a projector that is as bright as two cheaper ones put together. There are also better ways of stacking them, and even some projectors that are *meant* to be stacked and doubled up, and have various bits of software that make this calibration process more automated and less guess and check, but this was the best I could do in that situation, and it did what we needed it to, so I'm not complaining.
