may i suggest you do the analysis in Ableton and use OSC to bring the data into Izzy? Playing to the relevant strengths of each software... Both have very good OSC devices/actors available.
I'd also welcome an overhaul of Isadora's 3d capabilities, support for more filetypes being a necessary first step. Perhaps we could start a thread in feature requests to show the team what we'd like to see, and that there are users wanting better features for the 3d workflow. Personally, I would love a more intuitive camera system.
Hi,
Here are some of my explorations of this topic. You are welcome to modify for your use.

There are significant limitations when using audio frequency analysis in Isadora. The big one (that is not documented) when working with multichannel audio input i.e. from your DAW, Isadora’s audio frequency analysis will only interpret channel 1. There is no option to analyse frequencies of additional channels in a multichannel audio input stream. So if you have a standard stereo track as an audio input, only one (the top channel) of the two channels that make up the stereo track are able to be transcribed as audio frequencies. Similarly, if you have a 4 channel audio track with content only encoded to channels 3&4, Isadora’s audio frequency analysis will not work because there is nothing on channel 1.
However, you can use audio levels (Sound Level Watcher ++) to achieve independent level analysis of each channel in a multichannel audio input stream.
Another issue is audio input routing. If your multichannel audio is embedded in an audio or video file and placed in Isadora as a Movie Player or Sound Player module a third party routing software is required to Loopback the audio as an input that can then be accessed for audio frequency analysis. This is further complicated because at the time of writing, the multichannel functionality of the Movie Player remains an unfinished project and as a result working with multichannel sound files that are either audio files or video files requires different workflows and software/hardware setups (We might anticipate a future fix for this situation in the Isadora development roadmap).
Best wishes
Russell
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for sharing your pics too.
The M2 Ultra would be my preference but my pockets aren't quite deep enough.
Ive encountered the same issue with assigning multiple projectors, and not just with Izzy. It's always a drag. The issue with display position changing, Im not entirely sure what you're referring to, but can't say that I have ever encountered that.
Thanks again.
Jim
hi,
I am currently running a Mac Studio M2 Ultra it is great! I also presented work last year 4 HD projectors + monitor using a Mac Studio M1 Max. The video play back through Isadora had no issues. However, there were challenges with identifying the right Thunderbolt/usb-c to hdmi adaptors. There were also issues with the OS system setting display position changing (this is an old problem on Mac machines using multiple heads).
Here is a photo showing inside the video cube we installed for @David Gumbs work. You can see the Mac Studio under the little cart in the centre with a monitor and the four projectors at the top of the cube screens. There was also a wireless router so that when the cube was closed up, control of the Mac Studio was via screen sharing.
Oh! You are absolutely right...I don't know why I didn't see it.
I'm going to explore it and maybe come back with new questions. Thank you very much for opening my eyes!
Best,
Maxi
have a closer look at the 3D Model Particles actor. it's different to the regular 3D Particles actor. the top input enables you to choose a 3D model and it does exactly what you want to achieve.
@dbini Yeah ! This is what I meant when I wrote 3d particle system.
My point is that when you have a 3D object you can insert it into the 3Dmodel particles as a texture and not as an object itself. Maybe it's the same but I have my suspicions that it's not entirely the same.
Best,
Maxi
I'm still really interested to see if we could get a .obj as import file type.
Lots of people are struggling with .3ds files and importing them.
@riodio You also normally have to use Z translate to move the object backwards, so its comes into view. I normally start at -50
