I bit the bullet, sold the Z820 and am going to stick my current 5960x workstation into a 4U shorty case with a 1080 and assign it double duty as a render node and traveler workstation. While less portable than a laptop (I work 99% of the time in Toronto), I have become increasingly interested in (obsessed with) Isadora and think this change will make for a very sizable change in performance. Thanks again @DusX for the information you shared. 

I recently acquired a Blackmagic Design Web Presenter for a live streaming project.
It works perfectly as an input device for Isadora. It has two switchable video inputs, HDMI and SDI, with passthroughs for both, and an SDI PGM monitor out as well. Also RCA and XLR audio inputs.
It only outputs 720p, but gives a good, steady signal into Isadora via USB2.

It's rather more expensive than the other Blacmagic Capture devices, but its switchable dual inputs might be useful in certain situations.
Anyhow, it works, and I just wanted to share that with all you Isadorables.

Jacques, Fred and Bonemap, I have finally determined a workaround for being unable to save the large Isadora patch while editing. It is not related to having media on two different disks, as I thought, it happens when a background video is playing while I attempt a save or during an auto-save. This was an intermittent problem accompanied with one of  two error messages(see attached). If I turn off the movie player and projector associated with the background video, I can save the patch. This is very strange because I have been saving a patch while a video plays to stage since I began using Isadora 12 years ago. This problem occurred on a 2017 Mac Book Pro, 2013 Mac Pro, and 3 different PCs.

Is it still correct that a Mac Pro with a faster CPU will provide Isadora with better performance than a Mac Pro with more cores but a slower CPU speed? ...assuming the GPU, RAM and SSD speeds are the same on both computers?

Specifically, would Isadora work faster with a 3.5GHz 6-core Intel Xeon E5 Mac Pro compared to a  3.0GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5 Mac Pro, both using the

Hey Isadora community,

I'm new with using Isadora & currently working on my first project: I want to control parameters in Isadora with Control Voltages coming from a Eurorack Modular Synthesizer System via a DC-Coupled Audio-Interface.

I habe already got some results, but figured out crashes, that led me to a general question:

Is it normal that everytime I pull off the usb cable (to the soundcard), Isadora simply closes without any warnings, questions or report on the next startup?
(I'm guessing a major problem in my system, that is also responsible for the "smaller" crashes...)

Working on:
- MBP, mid 2014, high sierra 10.13.6

- Motu Ultralite AVB, Firmware 1.3.4+617 (newest), USB

Some ideas?

Hi ! anyone has experience with the px-pen graphic tablet ? I just bought one. Here is a patch for drawing works pretty ok using the mouse. But with the pen is not working properly: is always drawing. Thats the maine problem, also the relation between the tablet and the stage area

@kurtmeadows in general I would avoid using this method, unless you really need a feature from that pathway (like dual link 444 SDI). Also yes this is limited to a single output. The Blackmagic cards have no processing capability, it will waste a lot of resources to go back and forth from the GPU (where your image is calculated), back to the CPU and out the Blackmagic output.

It seems your need is only monitoring what you output to the projectors, this can be done inside Isadora, or by splitting the output signals, or using a multiview monitor. I would go for adding an extra monitor to you gfx card and asking yourself a split screen preview of everything you need to see. Just use normal HDMI to SDI for your output (even Blackmagic sell these do 50 bucks these days). This way is less cabling and less work for your computer as well as only requiring a single screen for preview monitoring.

I use TeamViewer to give private Isadora workshops via the web, (with Skype or FaceTime), so folks can use my license to save their work. It works fabulously. I can show them things, and they can control my computer while working in the Patch.

Hi, @Fred  , I totally agree with you about the MST Hubs.

I was pointing the Datapath solution as I find it being the most "comfortable one ", even if it's of course more expensive.

I have been talking with @maiami about this project before she posted the question here. They will need to run long SDI cables to the beamers etc...

I find the Datapath solution nice because you get direct SDI outputs, that you can mirror easily to control screens, no adapters, no extra converters etc... Also as the solution needs to be " touring ready ", the datapath is ready to be rack mounted.

@merni hey, i have used a few of varying quality, go for 5ghz and your best source these days is a drone specialist. A lot of the drone gear is long range and modular, you can pick and choose feature, cameras transmitters to get the setup you need.

The all in one wireless spy camera things you will find on eBay are not so good and subject to a lot of interference. Stay away from 2.4 GHz if you can. I went through a lot of these on a long running show and it was a pain. The static and interference was very welcome in this shows aesthetic so i got away with it. If you need a clean image these will not help you much.

Hi, for a future request, is it possible to route all the 6 stages to black Magic thunderbolt to HD-SDI boxes?

I know this means going back to CPU actors but the fluidity of the video card/box is much better than a graphics card.

What USB3 controller do you have? I know there are quite a few chips that do not really support the full bandwidth. Are you using a laptop? Do you have access to a desktop machine with a separate usb3 PCIE card. For high bandwidth applications these seem to be the only useable devices. It is for blackmagic compatibility, but the requirement is pretty simple, just full bandwidth and high performance. So far for me USB3 has been a little unreliable, (well not really but there are a lot of crappy controllers out there, including ones integrated into many motherboards. At any rate USB 3 has some pretty debilitating limitations on cable length (in my mind this kills the idea of a PTZ as you can only be a few meters away from the port for high bandwidth uses like HD video, as you could probably just reach and move the camera anyway). Take a look at something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/10x-Zoom-High-Speed-1080P-HD-SDI-PTZ-Dome-Camera-IR-60m-1-2-7-CMOS-Auto-Focus-/261447245257?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item3cdf785dc9 It has a similar specs (possible the same sensor by the looks of it) and is HDSDI so easy cheap and long connections between camera and computer and SDi capture boxes are cheap.

@Gapworks Yes, at first it seems odd, but frankly, it seems that most PTZ cameras are horribly designed, with proprietory quirks, and are also disproportionately expensive compared to other solutions. So they havent been very popular with interactive designers. I had one myself for a project and it was useless. We went back to a standard camera.
